BE PART OF MCKENZIE RESERVE WHĀNAU
Kotahi te aho ka whati, ki te kāpuia e kore e whati.
One strand of flax is easy to break, but many strands together will stand strong.
While Friends of McKenzie Reserve has a small committee overseeing its strategic vision, the success of McKenzie Reserve is due to the hundreds of people who over the years have volunteered and supported this project to be the taonga/treasure it is today.
Friends of McKenzie Reserve has over 200 whānau/family on its Friends database and on Facebook who are the flax strands of this ātaahua/beautiful place.
FOMR is made up of a broad range of volunteers and a core ‘working party’. The working party plan, initiate and manage the development of the Reserve in consultation with Auckland Council’s Parks and Reserves team.
GREAT FRIENDS

Takitahi, he toa takitini.
We cannot succeed without the support of those around us.

TĒNĀ KOE E HOA I TŌ ĀWHINA, THANK YOU FRIEND FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
Penny Ericson - chaired from 2006-2022
The success of the efforts from day one have been nurtured by long-time chairperson Penny Ericson with the support of a handful of dedicated volunteers. For the past couple of decades the Friends’ focus has been on a regenerative planting programme to rebuild native ecosystems and give a home to native species.
The Friends are now shifting their efforts to concentrate on the next stage of McKenzie Reserves’ development which is designed to bring people in to enjoy all that the Reserve offers. It will focus on the development of a new lookout, areas and facilities for schools and community groups to enjoy and resources to enable education of the native flora and fauna.

A tree comes from one seed but bears many fruit.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
As a community organisation that is based on Ngāti Pāoa land, we incorporate te reo Māori where we can and where our expertise with the language and our knowledge enable us to do so. Friends of McKenzie Reserve take inspiration from te ao Māori/the Māori world view, as we see it as instrumental in connecting people and places.
